New York

Greetings all! We had a great time at our signing in Billings on Monday. Saw many old friends and met some new ones. We send special thanks to Lorrie at the Billings Barnes & Noble. She laid the ground work for a superb presentation and even brought Godiva chocolates. We really appreciate you, Lorrie. Great job! The screen was set up ready for Mike to fiddle with the computer for ten minutes trying to set up the Power Point. Some of us really mourn the death of the slide projector; it was so easy. Victory! On the flight from Billings to New York we passed through the Minneapolis airport and found copies of COMING OF THE STORM right out front on the Simply Books podium, front of store! Thank you Simply Books! We signed all the copies we could, and will get the other two accounts on the way back on Saturday. If you are passing through, don’t hesitate to pick up an autographed copy for friends or family. Books make great gifts and, well, they have a super shelf life. New York is busy, cold, and bustling. Every time we arrive a certain sense of excitement builds. It’s something endemic to Manhattan. Perhaps some residual “cool” effect left at the glacial maximum 18,000 years ago? Whatever the cause, we’ll ride the giddy wave for two or three days, and finally stumble onto an airplane, exhausted, and ready for the tranquility of Wyoming. We’re off to meetings with Simon & Schuster today, discussing what went right and wrong with the COMING OF THE STORM book tour. Should be a fun and interesting day, especially as we get figures on how the book is doing. Tonight we have a meeting with our publisher, and finally supper. Tomorrow is filled with meetings at Tor/Forge discussing the sell-in and release of PEOPLE OF THE LONGHOUSE in July. Friday is dedicated to Tor/Forge editorial, and meetings at Sanford Greenburger, our literary agency. Oh, and we’ll try and fit in some great food, too. Especially the Indian restaurants. You can do that in New York. At least if you can fit it in while craning the neck to stare up at the high buildings. Best, Mike and Kathy.

Barnes and Noble in Billings, Montana tonight!

Hi All, We flew into Billings, Montana, last night. The temperature of 6 degrees was a bit of a shock after 50s in Florida, but we settled in quickly after a great pizza at Old Chicago. We will be at the Barnes and Noble tonight at 7:00 p.m. and would love to see everybody! Regards, Michael and Kathleen

Anhaica

Greetings from the Apalachee capital city of Anhaica. Today it is known as Tallahassee, Florida. Tonight we will be giving our slide show and lecture in the Books-A-Million at 3521 E. Thomasville Road. We’re on deck at 6:30 and hope to see some of our fans there. Last night’s lecture in Gainesville was delightful and fun, even if it was mostly store staff who enjoyed it. Our bad guy, de Soto, and his army spent the winter in Anhaica after driving the Apalachee out. Not that the Kristianos got to relax. The Apalachee conducted a very effective guerilla campaign against de Soto’s troops. How do we know that Anhaica and Tallahassee are the same? This was documented at the Governor Martin site in downtown Tallahassee where bits of Spanish armor, beads, pottery, and other artifacts were recovered. On our book tour we’ve followed de Soto’s route up from Tampa Bay and ended up where COMING OF THE STORM concludes. The second book, currently called THE FIRES OF MABILA, will begin here, at Anhaica, and follow Black Shell and Pearl Hand as they pursue de Soto and his raiders north through Georgia. We hope that you will be along for the ride. Best, Mike, Kathy, Black Shell, and Pearl Hand

Gainesville tonight!

Hi Everybody, We are off to the Gainesville Books-a-Million store on Newberry Road where we will doing a lecture and signing at 6:30 p.m. tonight. We had a wonderful time at the Barnes and Noble in Orlando last night. Special thanks to Geoffrey Shoffstall, the Community Relations coordinator. Great job, Geoffrey. Thanks so much for all your help. We had such fun! Great questions from the audience. We appreciate all of you who care to hear the other side of the De Soto story that we present in COMING OF THE STORM. Have a great day. We are going to have a rainy drive! Regards, Michael and Kathleen

Orlando Update

Hi Folks! This is just a tour update. We signed 1200 copies of COMING OF THE STORM in Michigan. Signed copies will be shipping to Krogers stores throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Northern Tennessee. They will also be available in select Krogers in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. In the Mid West you can also find signed books in Jay C stores. We stopped at the National Park Service’s De Soto Memorial in Bradenton, Florida. Great people, super interpretive exhibits, and Diana Bauman and Dan Stevens made us welcome. If you find yourself in the area, please drop by. We’re getting ready to head off to our Barnes & Noble here in Orlando. No Mickey Mouse, just a couple of hours talking to fans, signing stock, and shaking hands. If you can’t find a signed copy anywhere else, please contact any of the stores listed on the following blog post. They will be delighted to send you a copy! But hey, the temperature down here is in the fifties! Us Wyoming folk were looking forward to the eighties! All the best from the road, Mike and Kathy
