Ajanta cave 5 Ajanta cave 6

One of the most difficult decisions that any archaeological or historical site has to make is over public access to the site.  How much traffic can those fragile resources take before they begin to deteriorate so much that preserving them means prohibiting people from seeing them?  The Ajanta Caves recently decided to close four caves to protect them.  While this affects the ability to educate the public, we think it was the right decision.  These sacred sites are too precious to watch them fade into the dust.

May 31–Cahokia Lecture!

If you are going to join us at Cahokia for a tour of the archaeology, a lecture about the writing of PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR, and the following book signing, be aware that we will lead a short walk down to Mound 72, leaving the Cahokia Mounds State Park Museum at 1:00 with the lecture starting in the Theater at 2:00. We will have to take a small break at 1:30 for a television interview. Hope to see everyone from the St. Louis area at Chokia Mounds on Saturday the 31st. Access to the site is at exit 6 off the I-55/70 freeway just east of downtown.
